Star of Hope Ministries, Inc.

Thanksgiving 2008

Dear Friends:

In my last communication on stewardship, I briefly described the Star of Hope partnership as being diverse. Your understanding of the diversity in partnership should have also included inner-city residents as daily we pray and work toward the salvation of souls in Greater Paterson. God provides opportunities when we pray.

This Thanksgiving season we are wonderfully blessed to work in partnership with pastors and community leaders of Greater Paterson by providing them with tools and resources to strengthen their capacities to address pain and poverty in the truth and power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God provides opportunities when we pray.

Several of our member churches provide cooked meals and host dinner on Thanksgiving Day. Their congregations eat their holiday meal with persons and families of the community. What a testimony of the saints in those churches. Having your family understand, support and embrace eating and spending the holiday in church with strangers (or should I say making new friends) can only be described as a blessing from heaven. We know that having this type of celebration dinner is not easy and are thankful of the bold steps taken in faith by the saints. God provides opportunities when we pray.

Many of you have decided to have a little less on your tables so that others can have a little something to eat. Many of you sacrificially give money by foregoing that new fall sweater or winter coat to remind persons in need of the care and love by their neighbors. Many of you, in the face of whining children and complaining teens have continued to collect and donate cans of food for the Boxes of Love. Many of you have persevered in prayer for the lost, for the less fortunate, for the poor in spirit and body. Many of you have volunteered to pack and distribute turkeys and food boxes. All of you have remembered the words of our Lord and King: “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40). God provides opportunities when we pray.

Star of Hope Ministries is the evidence that relationships are deepening between God’s people and people of the city and surrounding neighborhoods. We desperately need your help to meet the need of our member churches and organizations this Thanksgiving season. Your financial support will assist Star of Hope in providing 1200 turkeys and food boxes to the poor, the disabled, the elderly and the alien...the least of these. We are praying. Will you respond to this opportunity?

Today, you are remembered before the throne of God with thanksgiving. Our prayers and petitions are for the answer to your prayers; for peace, for reconciliation, for mercy, for justice and restoration.

God bless you ,

Wanda M. Tugman
Executive Director
